This cow started off a little standoffish, I wasn’t sure how I felt about her…and now she is without a doubt my favorite milk cow.

She’s got this amazing energy, you can tell she’s got stories to tell, and she is just indescribably awesome.

She’s the only cow I’ve got who’s actually side kicked me in the gut…and somehow I respected her so much more after that 😂

She’s a bull in a china shop, definitely the least graceful of all the cows. Yet, she’s the most affectionate of everyone.

My first dairy cow. She’s pretty special, like a pretty special pain in the ass. She’s the matriarch of the herd at 11 years old. She’s stubborn & sometimes downright mean but dang I love her.

Janis isn’t the nicest cow but she’s an impressive cow who grows the most beautiful healthy babies. Honey is her latest calf.

You know how they say kids will test you in ways you can’t imagine…well, that’s me & Janis 🤪

I’m not sure there is a such thing as a perfect cow but I do know she was put in my life for a reason and so I love her everyday and thank her for her delicious milk!!

Revisiting Joann S. Grohman’s wonderful book “The Family Cow” and this quote struck me.

What a joy and at the same time an incredible challenge dairy cows are. There are no days off and yet the work is so rewarding.

I credit my beautiful cows with the amazing community raw milk has brought into my life. To be given the opportunity to provide for others is such a gift. I can’t even put into words how much I appreciate my customers and community✨

I’ve been scoffed at for only having a “few” dairy cows…because only large farms are considered work?!? Needless to say with a small herd I’m able to put an emphasis on relationship and stewardship of these incredible creatures.

I’m so grateful for this dairy life and our amazing herd of milky mamas✨
